In this Video I answer a question put to me on the AMB Animation Academy Facebook Page about how to animate a character lifting objects. I give a live demonstration of the process and assess the questioners rough animation.
This Animation exercise is often perceived to be one for beginners and although it is a learning exercise it is definitely more advanced as it has to cover a lot of if not every one of the 12 principles of animation.
The character must do more than simply lift the object and convey weight. Attitude and acting must be conveyed. Also anticipation and follow through as well as arcs and squash and stretch. The entire process is also an exercise in staging.
This video shows the initial blocking or thumbnail phase that will guarantee the animator successful results before they commit to just going straight ahead with the exercise.
